Appreciation

Many of the awards have been established as memorials to those who have had a strong interest in the performing arts in general or the Conservatory in particular. The Conservatory welcomes new donors to its scholarship, award, and bursary programs.

The Sharon and Jeff Cave Scholarship for the Performing Arts

Regardless of the form, art requires effort, sacrifice and study from the individual. However, it is only through the challenge of cooperation and shared ideas that we can attain mastery. The purpose of the Sharon & Jeff Cave Scholarship for the Performing Arts is to recognize students that have demonstrated commitment and initiative to develop themselves as individuals, as well as showing generosity in sharing their experience with peers and the dance community.

The scholarship consists of both a tuition portion and a direct prize portion awarded to a single student. The tuition portion shall be released to the school on behalf of the student at the beginning of term. The prize portion shall be released directly to the student at the annual Convocation ceremony. Recipients must be willing to have their name, picture and short biography published. The award consists of one year’s tuition for a 1.5 hour-long ballet class, as well as a $150 cash prize. http://sharoncave.ca/scholarship/

The application deadlines for scholarships appear on the individual forms themselves. Scholarship auditions are held each spring and are open to students performing at an RCM Grade 5 level and higher. The application fee is $10. Non-auditioned scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit. This is determined largely from participation in Conservatory activities such as recitals and ensemble programs as well as from some examination results. Age eligibility is 19 years and under unless otherwise indicated in the award description. The date for determining age eligibility is as of April 1st.

The Conservatory reserves the right to withdraw an award from a student whose work becomes unsatisfactory. Scholarships are to be used in the academic year immediately following the Convocation at which they are awarded.

Scholarships are given in the form of a tuition credit; winners’ names are printed in the Convocation program. Prizes are given at Convocation as a cash award to the student.

All tuition payments must be up-to-date before scholarship auditions may be taken. Scholarships are applied equally between Term 1 and Term 2 tuition costs in most cases. Before these funds can be credited, the student’s account from the previous year must be up to date.

Students receiving scholarships and prizes are expected to attend Convocation. Failure to appear risks forfeiture of the award.
