Kathleen Doherty is a dancer, choreographer, improviser, and teacher based in Halifax, NS. She attended Decidedly Jazz Danceworks’ Professional Training Program in Calgary from 2009-2011. Upon returning to Halifax in 2012, Kathleen co-founded the non for profit dance company, Votive Dance and has worked as Artistic Director since its inception. Kathleen is co-director of VERGE, a sound and motion ensemble based in improvisation. Recently, her choreography has been presented by: Kinetic Studio, Votive Dance, TD Halifax Jazz Festival, Connection Dance Works, Alberta Dance Festival, White Rabbit Arts Festival, CrossCurrents Dance, suddenlyLISTEN Music and No Parachute Theatre. In 2016 she worked as an Emerging Choreographer with Mocean Dance, creating a 30 minute work under the mentorship of Sara Coffin. Kathleen has performed in works by Vanessa Goodman, Rhonda Baker, Stephanie Mitro, Catherine Hayward, Katelyn McCulloch, Sara Coffin, Kara Friesen, among others, performing independently and with Mocean Dance, SiNS Dance, Votive Dance, VERGE and Connection Dance Works. Kathleen is Administrative Director with Kinetic Studio, General Manager with suddenlyLISTEN Music, and the primary jazz instructor at The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts in Halifax. In 2015 she was the recipient of the Diane Moore Creation Scholarship, awarded by Live Art Dance. Kathleen is a member of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists. Kathleen is excited to be traveling to Ireland in June 2017 to complete a residency at the prestigious Tyrone Guthrie Centre.
