After graduating from Canada’s National Ballet School in Toronto in 1969, Jane studied in England, Holland and Germany. Influential early teachers included Betty Oliphant, Nancy Kilgour, Daniel Seillier, and Grant Strate. She performed with the National Ballet of Canada from 1972-78, dancing Romantic, Classical and Contemporary repertoire. During this period she was privileged to work with exceptional mentors, including: Mikhail Baryshnikov, Erik Bruhn, Celia Franca, Karen Kain, Rudolf Nureyev, and Veronica Tennant. Joining the staff of Canada’s National Ballet School she taught ballet, repertoire, and pedagogy, and later on devoted ten years to their Teacher Training Program. Recent teaching experience includes almost twenty years with George Brown College/Ballet Jorgen Canada. Jane has also been on the faculties of York University and Quinte Ballet School of Canada. Ms. Wooding is an Examiner and Fellow of the Cecchetti Society of Canada. She is also a frequent Guest Teacher across Canada at summer courses, master classes and workshops. Presently Head of Cecchetti Studies at the Maritime Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jane also teaches ballet at Halifax Dance.
