For over 130 years, the School of Music has been inspiring individuals of all ages to pursue their passion for music through vocal and instrumental workshops, classes, private lessons and ensemble training. With a long and celebrated historical connection to both Symphony Nova Scotia and Dalhousie University’s Department of Music, the Conservatory stands as a testament to the rich artistic heritage and vibrant culture of our city. Music lessons at the Conservatory are enjoyable for people at any level of skill.
The Conservatory has been a part of my life and dear to my heart for as long as I can remember. I studied ballet, piano and music theory here as a child, and it is such a thrill to return now to support our wonderful students and teachers as their Dean of Music.
I love attending the Summer Contemporary Vocal Summit each summer. It’s so much fun meeting people who love singing as much as I do and everyone is so accepting and supportive of one another.
My son started playing the violin for the first time last year, and within a month, he had learned the basics and started playing with enthusiastically. Thanks to Anna Wedlock’s careful and encouraging teaching, he enjoys the lessons. The conservatory is truly a one-stop for the getting into the musical experience.
Anna (Wedlock) – I would like to thank you for you patience, focus and dedication to ensure Jordan has a professional and great music education. We have seen a lot of progress and he has gained a lot since he started out at the conservatory. You have kept his interest on, challenged him raising the bar each time, training him for his exams while making learning fun. He has gained lots of confidence from the recitals and is even able to participate in competitions/festivals. Am sure there’s no better place for anyone to have great music education.
When the hallways fill with music and voice, there is magic in the air.
Singing classic swing tunes in a small ensemble with a very patient, supportive instructor. Non competitive atmosphere, lots of fun!
We offer small class sizes with a focus on individual attention, or private music lessons in voice, piano, strings, wind and brass instruments. Over 40 highly accomplished and qualified teachers create a positive and nurturing environment for students. Year round, the opportunities at the Conservatory are endless. Beyond our teachers, there is the potential for more support of talent through scholarships and bursaries for children, youth, and adult learners.
Come stroll through history in the halls of our heritage site home at 6199 Chebucto Road and join us in our rich celebration of the musical arts and learning in Nova Scotia!
