Ruth Blackie

Ruth Blackie grew up in Scarborough and Burlington Ontario. After an ill-fated year of Natural Sciences at McMaster University, she switched into the music program and never looked back.

Ruth has been able to make a career of music through the Canadian Forces. Her career took her to both coasts, Manitoba and Ontario. She has played with many military ensembles, most notably Halifax’s Stadacona Band and Winnipeg’s Air Command Band. She is currently a member of the 36 Canadian Brigade Group Band in Halifax.

Ruth loves orchestral music and has performed with Symphony Nova Scotia and Nova Sinfonia.

Ruth has decades of teaching experience on clarinet and bass clarinet and is interested in students of all ages and experience levels.
