Eric Braley is a freelance clarinetist and clarinet teacher based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. An unusually well-travelled orchestral player, he performs regularly as an extra musician with Symphony Nova Scotia, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has also had the pleasure of performing with the Canadian Opera Company, Cleveland Orchestra, National Ballet of Canada, New World Symphony, Niagara Symphony Orchestra, Nu Deco Ensemble, Pacific Symphony, Tucson Symphony and Windsor Symphony Orchestra.
An enthusiastic participant in the premieres of dozens of new works, Eric recently collaborated with LA-based composer Alex Mansour in the conception, development, and subsequent performance of Kaleidoscope, for solo clarinet and electronics. He has won the Aspen Music Festival concerto competition and the Yale School of Music chamber music competition, appearing as soloist, chamber musician or recitalist in Aspen, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New Haven, Ottawa and Toronto.
Eric holds degrees and diplomas from the University of Southern California, Royal Conservatory of Music, Yale University and McGill University. He is grateful to have studied with master teachers Yehuda Gilad, Joaquin Valdepeñas, Michael Rusinek, Ricardo Morales, David Shifrin, Robert Crowley and Zaven Zakarian. Eric has enjoyed teaching clarinet students of many different ages and abilities for the Aspen Music Festival and School’s Festival Lessons Program, the Music in Schools Initiative of the Yale School of Music and New Haven Public Schools, Yale College, and the Schulich School of Music of McGill University. He is thrilled to be joining the faculty of the Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts.
