Audition Information

Auditions for the post-secondary Teacher Training Diploma Program are scheduled throughout the year. All candidates must submit two letters of reference and a written entrance essay of 500 words (describing why the candidate is interested in a career in teaching and/or studying in our Teacher Training Program).

 

In-person auditions are the best way to be seen and evaluated. Each year auditions will be held in locations across the Maritime provinces. Contact the Conservatory administration team to learn about the date and location closest to you.

Candidates may also arrange an on-campus audition by taking a technique class at the Conservatory. These are scheduled on a limited basis and only during regular year-round programming. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment, please contact our administration office.

 

Auditioning candidates must also submit a completed application form and related materials. Application forms are available through the Conservatory’s administrative office.

 

Application Deadline: : June 1st for a start date the following September. Late applications accepted on a case-by-case basis, and will be assessed based on space remaining in the program.

 

Audition fees must be submitted to the office at the time of application. Payments accepted include cash, cheque, debit and credit

Audition Information

Candidates should arrive 30 minutes before scheduled audition class to complete registration and submit paperwork.

Parent/student orientation and audition class are scheduled inclusively. Please bring completed registration form and required documentation pertaining to the program you are applying to. Candidates who have not pre-registered must submit application fee prior to the audition class. Fee schedule and forms are available through the Conservatory’s administration office.

Audition Attire: Female candidates should wear a leotard, tights, ballet slippers and bring pointe shoes. No skirts, please. Hair should be styled neatly, long hair secured in a bun and off face.

Male candidates should wear a leotard and/or fitted t-shirt, tights or dance shorts and ballet slippers. Unitards also accepted. Hair should be styled neatly and off face. Dance belt (similar to athletic support) is recommended.

Auditioning By Video

If you are unable to attend any of the auditions in person, video auditions are accepted. Completed application form, photos, and audition fee must accompany your DVD, USB or viewable link. Please label clearly and submit all components via email or mail.

If submitting a viewable link for your video, upload to YouTube or Vimeo and set the privacy viewing to public or unlisted (not private). Send link c/o the Dean of Dance to academic@maritimeconservatory.com.

Video Specifications: Your video should not exceed 20 minutes. Video content should demonstrate both sides (right and left) of:
Barre: Plies, Tendus and Dégagés, Rond de Jambe, Adage, and Grand Battements
Centre: Port de bras, Pirouettes, Adage, Petit Allegro, and Grand Allegro
Solo: Classical ballet or contemporary solo of your choosing

Attire – As listed for in-person auditions above.

Tuition:

Please contact our  administrative office for current tuition fees. Scholarships and Bursaries are available through Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts.

Additional costs not included in tuition include uniform (dance/teaching wear, dance shoes), textbooks, examination fees (RAD, CDTA, Cecchetti Society). Living and travel expenses are not included in tuition.

Students enrolled in Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts School of Dance Teacher Training Diploma Program are eligible to apply to Nova Scotia Student Assistance for financial aid.

 

Accommodation:

Teacher Training students are responsible for their own accommodations.
