Antonia Pigot brings eclectic and diverse musical experiences to the teaching table. Highlights have included performing at the Ouaga Jazz Festival in Burkina Faso, Africa, recording vocals for a Cirque du Soleil album in Montreal and creating electronic vocal soundscapes for the New Dance Festival in St. John’s.
Antonia has been teaching singing to amateurs and professionals for over 30 years and focuses on contemporary music, jazz and musical theatre as well as vocal rehabilitation. She strives to connect with students to develop a healthy individual vocal sound and artistic authenticity.
In addition to the MPCA, Antonia has been a vocal instructor for the Carleton University Music department in Ottawa, the Dalhousie University Theatre department and the Nova Scotia Community College Music Arts in Halifax. She has studied voice with master teachers from Montreal, Ottawa and New York including jazz great Sheila Jordan and a few lessons with film legend Marnie Nixon! Well known students have included Jenn Grant, Lhasa de Sela and Signal Hill.
Antonia is an innovative vocalist, improvisor and jazz artist dedicated to making singing accessible to all. Her artistic work has ranged from interpretations of the standard jazz repertoire to free improvisation to vocal soundscapes using electronics. She has collaborated with a wide range of artists in music, art and dance from Halifax to Montreal to Europe and produced her own jazz CD Heart Songs. Antonia is also a registered music therapist and uses singing as a therapeutic medium for clients with special needs.
