School of Dance

The moment you enter the Conservatory you become aware of the building’s history and its atmosphere of vibrant artistic activity, created through the outstanding quality and dedication of the entire faculty. The School of Dance’s teaching staff includes a wonderful blend of national and international backgrounds that bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the training of students.

The School of Dance, under the direction of Barbara Dearborn, continues to focus its instruction
on ballet as the principle style in order to provide a strong basis for developing other forms of dance. Barbara Dearborn has been the Director and Head Teacher of the School of Dance for thirty years and is currently Dean of Dance. Through her knowledge, dedication and commitment,
the school has developed an outstanding Classical Ballet training program that embraces
all three major styles of classical dance; Cecchetti, Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), and Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA). Also offered are a unique Folk Dance program and our very highly respected post-secondary Teacher Training Program, which is the only one of its kind in Atlantic Canada.

Graduates of the School of Dance have gone on to have careers with professional dance companies across Canada and abroad. Graduates of the Teacher Training Program are currently teaching at the National Ballet School and other major training organizations.
