GenNew has started learning about the Breaking Artform, and movement since 2009. He had taken classes with various organizations in Halifax, until starting to teach informally in 2010 and formally in 2011. GenNew believes it to be integral to learning the Original HipHop dance, Breaking, by recognizing the roots of HipHop being born from Black resilience. GenNew’s background in Health Promotion and community engagement further emphasizes the importance of systems and is thus why GenNew advocates for easier access to dance.
