Casey Granofsky joined Symphony Nova Scotia as principal flute in 2023. Known for her lyrical
tone and stylistic versatility, she brings over two decades of orchestral experience to the stage.
From standard symphonic repertoire to contemporary premieres, Casey is celebrated for her
musical sensitivity and technical command. Prior to joining Symphony Nova Scotia, she was a
freelance musician playing with various ensembles including the Montreal Symphony, the
Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Niagara Symphony, and the Toronto Concert Orchestra.
In addition to her orchestral career, Casey is an active teacher and mentor, maintaining an
active private studio as well as teaching masterclasses in Halifax and throughout Nova Scotia.
Her pedagogical approach emphasizes a balance of strong technical foundation, expressive
interpretation, and artistic individuality. Some of her students have gone on to attend prestigious
conservatories, win competitions, and pursue professional careers in music, while others have
taken what they have learned to make music in their communities.
Outside the classroom, Casey plays an active role in community engagement and youth
outreach. She frequently presents masterclasses, adjudicates competitions, and leads
educational workshops designed to make classical music more accessible and inclusive. As
both a mentor and role model, Casey emphasizes the importance of empathy, discipline, and
lifelong curiosity—not only in music, but in all areas of personal and professional growth.
Through her work as both performer and educator, she continues to shape the next generation
of musicians with dedication, integrity, and a deep belief in the power of music to connect and
inspire.
Casey holds a Master of Music degree from McGill University, where she studied with Timothy
Hutchins, as well as a diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées from l’Université de Montréal
(Denis Bluteau), and a Bachelor of Music and Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School (Dr.
Kathleen Rudolph).
