Rod MacGillivray (B.Mus. M.Mus.) is a conductor and low brass musician from Bridgewater, NS performing on trombone, euphonium, and tuba. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Mount Allison University, a Master of Music from Temple University in Philadelphia, and has completed doctoral studies in trombone performance from The Ohio State University and graduate studies in wind conducting from The University of Alabama. He has studied trombone with Blair Bollinger (Philadelphia Orchestra), Joseph Duchi (The Ohio State University/Columbus Symphony), and Ted Griffith (Montreal Symphony Orchestra) and wind conducting with Gerald Welker, Russell Mikkelson, Richard Blatti, James Smith, and Dwight Oltman.  In addition to his duties as the Music Director of the Mersey Band, he is the founder and director of the Nova Scotia Youth Brass Ensemble (NSYBE), low brass instructor and faculty member of the Conservatory Nova Scotia Association, co-conductor of Scotia Brass, member of the NSRMTA (Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers Association) and a coach for the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble. He has taught on the faculties of Acadia University, Kenyon College, and Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and was the Director of Bands at Adams State College in Colorado.
