Debbie Miles holds a Master of Arts in Classical String Performance from University of Limerick in Ireland and over 30 years of teaching and performing experience. Debbie is an engaging violinist known for her warm sound. As a violin teacher she brings an enthusiastic approach along with a passion for music.

 

Debbie is a versatile performer of classical violin, fiddle, folk and pop music. She has performed with orchestras such as Symphony Nova Scotia and Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and with string quartets across Ireland and Scotland. Debbie toured across Canada as a back up violinist for artists such as Anne Murray and Sons of Maxwell (playing on a festival stage to 30,000 opening for Keith Urban). She has recorded a variety of diverse studio sessions from a Barry’s Tea commercial in Ireland to solo artist Dave Carroll’s latest album, ‘Until One Day’.

 

Debbie has an affinity for the North. She began her early career as concertmaster for the Timmins Symphony Orchestra in Northern Ontario. 

 

For over 19 years she has taught young fiddle groups at the Iqaluit Music Camp in the Arctic where she has also led school workshops through  National Arts Centre’s ‘Arts Alive’. As a music educator Debbie has taught violin, fiddle, string ensembles, orchestras, school workshops and summer music camps from Nunavut to Ireland (former faculty Mary Immaculate College). 

 

Debbie teaches beginner and advanced violin (and fiddle) to all ages at MCPA. She instructs lively young violin groups using her own innovative music arrangements at a program she founded 20 years ago at the Halifax Grammar School. Debbie performs as a freelance violinist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She enjoys playing a diverse range of musical styles with her violin/piano duo, as a soloist with choirs and as a back-up musician for folk/pop solo artists.
